While Cairo was established in 939, the area has been continuously inhabited for 4,000 years with the ancient settlement of Memphis just southwest of the city. It’s in Saqqara that the first pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoser, was built. Later, in 2,500 B.C.E., on a plateau on the west bank of the Nile, the Giza pyramids began construction as tombs for the remains of Pharaohs as well as items they may need in the afterlife. The Great Pyramid took 20 years, 2 million blocks of stone and 20,000 workers to complete — although this theory, and other speculations about the pyramids, are highly debated among scholars.

Today, Cairo is the largest city in the Arab world with a population of 20 million people. Set on the banks of the Nile, it contains hundreds of registered historic monuments and the oldest university on the planet, Al-Azhar Mosque located in Islamic Cairo.

On top of other exciting excursions, Platinum Members will be treated to an exclusive, per-person tour of Saqqara and Memphis on Day 3. Transfer to the outskirts of Cairo to the ancient city of Memphis, part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s the home to the famous Pyramid of Djoser within the Saqqara necropolis and an open-air museum, featuring the massive statue of King Ramses II and other important archaeological finds. Step into the past as you walk around and see an alabaster Sphinx, sarcophagus monuments and more relics of Memphis.

Day 3: Platinum half-day tour of Saqqara and Memphis; includes lunch and transportation.

• Explore Old Egypt.
• 5 p.m.: Transfer to Khan el-Khalili souk.
• 6 p.m.: Return to the hotel.

Day 3

6:30-11 p.m.: Dinner cruise on Nile River; includes dinner, entertainment and transportation.

Cancellation Policy*: If you cancel 91 days or more before the start date of your trip, you’ll get a refund of the amount you paid for the trip less a fee of US$50. If you cancel between 46 and 90 days before the start date of your trip, you’ll get a refund less a fee of US$100. If you cancel within 45 days of the start date of your trip, your trip will not be refunded. All fees are applicable on a per-person basis.

Name Change Policy: Name changes must be done no later than August 9 and are subject to a US$50 name change fee. Name changes after this date are not allowed.

Due to contractual supplier policies, we may not be able to confirm requested name or room changes to existing bookings for trips that are scheduled to travel within 30 days of your request.

Each individual, including each child, who is coming along with you on your DreamTrip is required to have a booking prior to the commencement of the trip. If you do not book and pay for each such person in advance of the trip, you will be charged the hotel’s then-current rate, not the trip price, for each such person at the time of your check-in.
